Entertainment Week of 1/17/11

Usher has been ordered to rest. Usher has had to cancel dates on his European tour. Usher took ill, and his reps say he is suffering from an upper respiratory infection. At a recent show, Usher was on the stage crying, staggering and he appeared out of it. Hopefully, he will listen to doctor’s orders.

TV One will be returning with a new season of Unsung. This season, which kicks off this summer, will feature Alexander O’Neal and Cherelle, The Spinners, Deniece Williams, Evelyn “Champaign” King, Big Daddy Kane and The Ohio Players.

Bobby Brown is starting to reveal how drug use has affected his life. In a recent interview, he explained why his mouth is crooked. Brown says he was doing heroin back in 2001, and he almost overdosed. He says it was a very scary moment that changed his life forever.

Singer Kenny Lattimore is hard at work on a new project. He recently teamed up with Producer Carvin Haggins for the song What Must I Do.

Congrats to The Queen Of All Media, Wendy Williams! Her talk show has been renewed for a new season.

Diana Ross’ son, Evan Ross, is leading an all-star cast in the movie Mooz-lum. The movie, by Writer/Director Qasim Basir, tells the story of a young man’s struggling to come to terms with his Islamic faith on an American college campus. Evan Ross stars as Tariq Mahdi. The cast also features Danny Glover, Nia Long and Roger Guenveur Smith. Mooz-lum opens in theatres next month.

Eagles Quarterback Michael Vick is a hot get right now, and the big question is who is going to get him first for an interview? Will it be Oprah Winfrey or CNN’S new host Piers Morgan? My bet is on Oprah.

She got her a baller! Singer Monica and Shannon Brown of The L.A. Lakers are married. The two tied the knot 2 months ago, but why are they keeping it quiet? Monica, 30, has a new reality show in the works. They want to keep all the details for the TV audience. Brown, 30, has been with the Lakers since 2009. Monica has two sons, Rodney, 5, and Romelo, 3, from a previous relationship.

Singer Etta James is not doing well, and her family is split over her money. Her husband, Artis Mills, is contesting the power of attorney given to her son, Donto James. In a recent court session, Mills was granted $60,000 of James savings to help with her medical care. Donto James has asked for a third party to oversee the spending of that money. Etta James, 72, is suffering from leukemia and dementia. The legendary singer is known for the hits Something’s Got A Hold On Me, All I Do Is Cry, Stop The Wedding and, her breakthrough, At Last.

A third legendary talk show host is saying goodbye. Regis Philbin is leaving Live With Regis And Kelly. This week, Philbin, who’ll be 80 in August, shocked his audience announcing his retirement from television sometime this summer. Regis joins Larry King and Oprah Winfrey in this season’s TV farewells. Philbin is in the Guinness Book Of World’s Records for the most hours on camera by a television personality. Co-Host Kelly Ripa will continue with the show with a new co-host. No replacement for Regis has been announced.

Get well wishes go out to legendary Songwriter/Producer Nile Rogers. He says he has a very aggressive form of cancer. Rogers, 58, is a founding member of Chic. They enjoyed a string of hits like Everybody Dance, Good Times, Dance, Dance, Dance and Le Freak. Rogers with his partner, the late Bernard Edwards, produced hits for Diana Ross, David Bowie, Sister Sledge, Carly Simon, Madonna and, of course, were famously sampled for The Sugarhill Gang’s Rapper’s Delight.

Is Halle Berry being pressured to become the big screen’s Queen Of Soul? Aretha Franklin has been making the rounds in the media to dispute reports that she has pancreatic cancer and won’t be able to recover from her undisclosed aliment. During one of her interviews, The Queen Of Soul, 68, said she wants to see Halle Berry play her on screen. When asked about this at The Golden Globe Awards, Berry, 44, took the diplomatic route. She said because she can’t sing a lick, she couldn’t do Aretha’s story justice. Critics have seized not only on the singing, but the physical appearance of the two women being a distraction from any movie.

In more Halle news, her babydaddy, Gabriel Aubry, has asked a court to officially declare him the father of two-year old Nahla. This is a move that usually precedes a custody battle, but sources say for now, Aubry, 34, just wants to officially preserve his rights as a father. Berry and Aubry amicably split close to a year ago.

The I.R.S.’ next celebrity battle is with Montel Williams. Williams, 54, has been hit with a $1million federal tax lien. This follows being detained by authorities at the airport when he was caught with marijuana. He uses it for his multiple sclerosis. The former talk show host’s tax lien is in connection to his 2008 and 2009 returns. Uncle Sam doesn’t play Montel, and you can ask Ron Isley and Wesley Snipes!

Lauryn Hill is still playing! At a recent concert she was scheduled to give in Atlanta, she kept the audience waiting three hours. Hill didn’t take the stage until midnight. She also decided to sing new music and skip her hits. This all comes on the heels of her keeping a New York concert audience waiting for four hours before she took the stage. This is not right. People spend their hard earned money and you can’t come out on time or even sing their favorite songs. You don’t have to worry about seeing me in the audience for one of her shows!

The new face of Dark And Lovely is Bria Murphy. The 20-year old was thrown a lavish party this week to introduce her as the new star of the company’s print and television ads. Murphy is following in her family’s show business tradition. She’s the daughter of Comedian/Actor Eddie Murphy and his ex-wife Model Nicole Murphy.

WDAS’ Afternoon Drive Host Michael Baisden has a new documentary called Do Women Know Want They Want. The documentary explores the topics of sex, monogamy, cheating, marriage, interracial relationships, girlfriends and even open relationships to ask women what they really want and do they even know? The DVD hits shelves on Valentine’s Day.

Dionne & Friends are back. In 1986, Dionne, Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder and Elton John released the hit That’s What Friends Are For to raise money in the fight against AIDS. The four legends will reunite again for the 25th anniversary of the song and AmFar’s 25th Black Tie Event in New York on February 9th. AmFar honors those who have made major contributions in the fight against AIDS. In more Dionne news, she’ll be on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice on March 6th. Warwick will join The Real Housewives Of Atlanta’s NeNe Leakes, Star Jones and LaToya Jackson, to name a few.

Kevin Hart is known for his on the edge brand of stand up comedy, and now, so is his soon to be ex-wife. There’s a video of Torrei Hart doing stand up comedy in a club as the angry black woman. The video has gone viral, and has a not so nice look at marriage and men. This video surfaced just after pictures of Kevin, out and about with a new lady, were published. Entertainment News Week of 1/10/11

They released doves in the air, cried and shared memories as hundreds gathered to say goodbye to Teena Marie. Marie, 54, passed away in her sleep December 26th. Her death shocked the music industry. Teena Marie was affectionately known as The Ivory Queen Of Soul because of her amazing voice and work as a writer/producer. She was also a loving mother to her daughter Alia Rose. Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Gill, Berry Gordy and Deniece Williams were just a few of the many stars who gathered and paid homage to one of the world’s best lived singers.

Another death that took place on that date was the passing of Bernard Wilson, who sang with the legendary Harold Melvin And The Bluenotes, who died lonely and broke. At the time of his death, he was not in his right frame of mind, and it appears people came into his life and took advantage of him. Wilson was left with nothing. Now his family has no money to give him a proper burial. Who stole his belongings? Wilson was known for his extravagant style. So what happened? His death and final days remain a mystery, but it is clear someone took advantage of him before he died.

The Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin is on the mend. While she won’t reveal if she is suffering from pancreatic cancer, she sounded upbeat and confident when she recently phoned The Wendy Williams Show. The Queen Of Soul’s voice was strong. She sounded great saying she was on the mend, and she looked forward to making up her lost tour dates. She also had the audience in stitches when she admitted she had a thing for R Kelly by saying he could make her a cougar. In a recent interview with Jet magazine, Franklin, 68, said she noticed something with her when she was on tour in Canada. It was a pain in her side that wouldn’t go away. She says she wants her fans to keep her in prayer and stay on top of their health.

She is the woman who also had kids with his brother Randy, and she is giving their mother Katherine a hard time. She is refusing to leave the Jackson home. Alejandra wants to be a Jackson forever, even though both brothers have used and discarded her. She feels she is entitled to the Jackson money, and, in a way, she is with the back child support. Jermaine can’t stand his ex, and he is playing hardball. He is dating a rich Arabian woman, so he can get the money. He just doesn’t want to give it to her. Now Jermaine’s mother is suffering, and he can’t leave Africa. They took his passport. So, if he wants to come home, he is going to have to pay up. In the meantime, Alejandra realizes her days are numbered, so she is threatening to write a tell-all book about loving the two Jackson brothers and their family secrets.

Williams admitted he hadn’t been sober for two and half years and has been drinking. {The Blues + Photo Shoot}

So....today was just one of those days. Sometimes they just pop the hell out of nowhere!
Today my back was killin me from my lovely cramps...just love them. So yeah wasn't in the best of moods today.

The pressures of being a single mommy really kinda got to me today..."X" out NOW if you don't want to hear me vent, because that's what I am about to do.
Reality hits me at different days of the week, different times of the hours, different weeks of the year etc. I didn't know I was going to have such an emotional evening...but reality is, I did.
Sometimes yall...it gets to me being supawoman AKA supamommy...BUT I realize at the same time, that there is no other way. It is what it is. Me any my best friend were talkin today and we were talkin about how tired each of us were, and considered havin a glass of wine to help her sleep better, and she suggested that I just call it a night when I get home. Well...I reminded her...not to feasible with a toddler. Once I leave my 10 hour daytime job, I come home to another full time job and that's being mommy.

After I got off, not only was it cold as hell outside, it was super duper windy...had to fight the strong winds, stop at the post office, and stop at the store so that I can provide dinner for my little one. Then lets not forget to pick her up from Grandmas. I try not to get too comfortable at moms house, cause its easy to do. Its like my second home, but you know there are just times that I kinda just want to get home.
Soon as I walk through the door, I get dinner started, I probably didn't even sit down until an hour and a half later...so I'm starting to get emotionally wound up cause a sista is really tired and still not feelin too hot..at all.

I got emotional because I have this 3 year old who is bursting with energy, still lovin all her Christmas gifts and wants to play with all her games and toys. I found myself snapping at her for no apparent reason. I feel bad, because everything I am goin through is not her fault, far from it. So it saddens me. As the night goes on, I find myself goin round and round in circles, making double work for myself, dropping stupid stuff, making unnecessary messes in the kitchen, etc. Then I suddenly realized I was having a slight breakdown. Not to mention....her dad is in the middle of my frustration as I may find myself back in court. I don't have time for all of this, I really don't but I will do what I need to do.

A dear friend of mine, checked on me which allowed me a shoulder to cry on. Sometimes I just gotta get it out...most of the time is not cool, cuz Bre don't like seeing her mommy down.
After a nice long hot shower and a calming down, me and Bre had a photo shoot.

These are the reasons I continue to walk with my head high...she is my reason for living....she makes me smile, I lover her so much.

This past weekend, Bre and Grandma made crafts..most parents out there with little ones know who Moose A. Moose and Zee are. Well here are a few pics of the project below:

These are actually "pillows" made out of felt. She is SOOO proud!!! And mommy is too!

Had to get this pic below so you can see a better pic of the dress..lol...one of her many costumes that came in a Treasure Chest from her grandparents...

Here is a picture of the collection she made...she also made a heart especially for mommy! Love it! Love! Love! Love!

Aww look at mommy and her beautiful heart!!! My baby girl made this!!!

Then there are a few pics me and Bre took playin around with the camera... =)

The mommy girl...
Me and the love of my life!

Love the way my Tiffany BLINGS!

{Scrap Stuff}

Can't believe I was able to attend 2 different crops.

Did the Friday Night Among Friends at Collective Journeys and then went to the crop in the city of Orange.

Pages I completed this weekend:

True...you only see 4 layouts here, but I am workin on a cute chunky book for Breanna's birthday party from back in June...yeah I am behind, so what!

I should be able to complete that at next weekends crop!

Some other side items...they both have a funny behind them...

Below...here you will see this "gift" that I got from my dear girlfriend Wendy...lol...she gave it to me at yesterdays crop as a little jokie joke...bless her heart..LOL! She wrapped it all nice in a brown paperbag...lol. She had some littlw cracks about me making that BEAUTIFUL mini album I made...lol. Becuase of all her joke cracking, I went ahead and made it out of empty papertowl rolls instead using toilet paper rolls as she made wise cracks about the possibilities of me scrapping with fecal matter...lol..only you Wendy! So anywhow...she gave me this nice gift below with an EMPTY box of Tucks...ima get her one of these days..lol...

I posted this beforem but becuase of the pic above, I had to show you the after..lol..

This pic here is for my girlfriends Genevieve and Rochelle...we all have a bad habit of taking a can of frosting to the head...lol...this is for you girls! I just had a freaking craving tonight and I thought of you girls! LOL! XOXO!

Entertainment Week of 1/3/11

Did Teena Marie have to die? The 54-year old Ivory Queen Of Soul passed away in her sleep the day after Christmas. Over the past few months, Teena Marie had been having health issues in the form of seizures. A couple of months ago, she suffered a seizure that forced her onto medication. Sources say she hated the way the medicine made her feel. She had a few concerts coming up, and she wanted her energy back. Did she stop taking her medicine to try herbal remedies? Marie’s 19-year old daughter, Alia Rose, found her body, and Marie’s death sent the music world in shock. There will never be another Teena Marie. Her voice was amazing, and she was an incredible writer and producer. She was also a great mother to her daughter. Teena always gave her all in concerts. We had so much fun with her last year in Atlantic City and at the Dell East. Marie was looking forward to getting a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and releasing a new album. She will be missed, but her music will never be forgotten.

The Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin is recovering at home after a recent hospital stay. In early December, Franklin had surgery for pancreatic cancer. She lost over 80 pounds as half of her stomach was removed. Franklin, 68, was recovering from that surgery when she collapsed at home from dehydration. So far, it’s been a slow recovery for Franklin. Keep The Queen Of Soul in your prayers.

Fantasia got some good news at the end of the year, a North Carolina judge has ruled that she didn’t break up the marriage of her married boyfriend. Fantasia had quite a year with Antwaun Cook. When they met, he was married and his wife took Fantasia to court. Well, a judge decided from his findings that the Cooks were already separated when Fantasia came into the picture. A lot came out during this court case, including Fantasia having an abortion and attempting suicide. Fantasia is currently on tour, and Mr. Cook is right by her side.

How did Nicole Murphy blow through $15 million? Murphy, the ex-wife of Eddie Murphy, is facing taxes and huge bills, and it’s all due to bad investments. When Nicole divorced Eddie, she got $15 million up front, but the money is gone. She lost much of her money in a failed internet jewelry business. Nicole, who is dating TV Analyst and former NFL Player Michael Strahan, has been forced to cut back on her movie star lifestyle. Eddie reportedly has agreed to give her more money in child support to help her make ends meet. They have five children together.

So how is life for former NBA Star Allen Iverson in Turkey? Iverson now plays basketball overseas, and in a recent interview with Philadelphia Magazine, he talked about his life right now. Iverson says his daughter, who was sick, is doing better. He revealed he is back together with his wife and she and their five kids will be joining him in Turkey. He says he’s not broke, even though he has been selling valuable items on E-Bay. At 34, he says he still has money. He also revealed that he has been blackballed by the NBA saying the talk about him is that he is too much trouble. His life now consists of practice twice a day (remember how he hated practice when he played for the 76ers). Iverson only has two months off out of the year, and the home arena where he plays has less than 4,000 seats.

The 43-year old is also the host of The Newlywed Game on the Game Show Network. An August wedding is being planned in Chicago. Her daytime talker The View returns from hiatus on January 10th, and she’ll be talking about her engagement.

Mo’Nique, who won an Academy Award last year for her role in Precious, will be hand to announce the new nominees for this year’s Oscars. The announcements will be made on January 25th.

The hottest comedian out right now is Kevin Hart. The Philly native is wowing audiences across the country with his Seriously Funny Tour. Hart is also making headlines with his love life. He is no longer with his wife Torrie, the mother of his children. Hart has been dating an aspiring model whom sources say is well known………….and by that I don’t mean famous! Hmmmmmmmm!!!

Wilson, who had the baritone voice, was a member of the group throughout their most popular career phase with Philadelphia International Records beginning in 1971. Lloyd Parks is now the sole surviving member of that Sound Of Philly lineup.

Back in the 80’s, Parents Just Don’t Understand launched the career of Will Smith, and now a remake is in the wings featuring his daughter Willow. Willow, 10, had the 2010 smash Whip My Hair, and in a recent interview she says she would like to do her dad’s classic song.

Abdul, 48, says she is moving on from American Idol. She says there are many misconceptions about her. She says she has never had a drinking problem. Paula says she’s not ditzy or clueless but naturally goofy. When Abdul appeared on Idol, she was known for her antics and loopiness. She would appear out of it, and many wondered if this was the reason she was replaced on the show. For sure the show has not been the same without her. Now speaking of American Idol, their new season kicks off on the 19th with new Judges Steven Tyler from Aerosmith and Jennifer Lopez. In addition to new judges, the show is also getting a new musical director. Ray Chew from Showtime At The Apollo is taking the helm as the shows new music director. Check out Queen Latifah in the new movie The Dilemma. The movie, also starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James, comes out January 14th.

Oprah Winfrey’s new network, OWN, got off to a rousing start with a million viewers on the first day. The show debuted with small rollout of programming, but you can already tell her network is going to have some fun shows. The full slate of programming will be up by the fall. My favorite show is Ask The Experts with Dr. Phil, Suze Orman and Dr. Oz. I loved the premise of you’re asking them anything. Rosie O’Donnell, Gayle King and Country Superstar Shania Twain are just a few of the stars rolling out with shows.

Who’s watching the kids? This is the question many people are asking about the children of Shaquille O’Neal and his ex-wife Shaunie. Despite rumors of a breakup, he continues to date Reality Star Hoopz, but they are not engaged. Shaunie has been partying around town with her 26-year old boyfriend Marlon Yates. The O’Neal kids range in age from 2 to 12. Shaunie has made a name with her show Basketball Wives, but close friends are concerned about the O’Neal children. Yes, they have money, but what about their parents’ involvement.

Lauryn Hill is up to her old antics. At a recent show in Brooklyn, she made fans wait four hours before she appeared on stage. Hill, who was carried in from the snow, says it was no big deal because she was worth the wait. Really? I don’t think any performer is worth a four-hour wait.
