What's the 4-1-1!? Entertainment News Week Ending 3/21

What is wrong with Nick Gordon? He's the husband of Bobbi Kristina, and it appears the daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown has married a nut case. Gordon was raised as a play brother to Bobbi Kris by Houston, but after Houston's death, Gordon and Bobbi announced they were in love. Gordon has been feuding with Bobbi Kris' family, and this past week, he sent them threatening tweets and pictures of assault rifles. Last month, Gary Houston, the son of Pat Houston who was with his Aunt Whitney at the time of her death, beat up Gordon. Is Gordon serious about his threats? Is he planning to do harm to the Houston family, or is he gaining publicity to do another reality show with Bobbi Kris? Their first show failed because they were boring.

Tyler Perry is coming out with a new Madea project. Tyler Perry’s latest stage play, Madea And The Neighbors From Hell, comes out April 22nd on DVD and Blu Ray. This past weekend was not good for Perry at the box office. His latest movie, Single Mom's Club with Nia Long, did not perform well. It was the worst box office opening for him since he started making films.
Diana Ross is coming to town. The Boss will be at The Mann Center For The Performing Arts, 52nd and Parkside on Wednesday, June 25th. It will be her debut at the outdoor Philadelphia venue.
Motown Legend Smokey Robinson is suing his ex-wife Claudette. Robinson and his ex-wife were married for 27 years until their divorced in 1986. Robinson is suing his ex-wife because he doesn’t want her to profit from the songs he wrote during their 27 years of marriage. That was during Smokey's most successful songwriting period with hits for The Miracles (Tears Of A Clown, I Second That Emotion, The Tracks Of My Tears), The Temptations (My Girl, The Way You Do The Things You Do, Get Ready), Mary Wells (My Guy, Two Lovers), Marvin Gaye (I'll Be Doggone, Ain't That Peculiar), Kim Carnes (More Love), Captain & Tennille (Shop Around), Luther Vandross (Since I Lost My Baby) and himself as a solo artist (Quiet Storm, Crusin', Being With You). We are talking about some of the hugest hits in all of music. Robinson feels his Claudette was well taken care of with their divorce settlement, and she didn’t write the songs. Smokey will be in Atlantic City at Harrahs Casino on Saturday, May 24th.

Speaking of Motown legends, congrats to Martha Reeves of Martha & The Vandellas. The Motown legend is celebrating the 50th anniversary of her classic song Dancing In The Street. Reeves, who started at Motown as a secretary, eventually began singing backup for fellow Motown labelmates Mary Wells and Marvin Gaye. It was Gaye who co-wrote Dancing In Street and that's him playing drums on the Motown classic. It became the biggest hit of Reeves' career topping the charts in the summer of 1964.

Where there's smoke there's fire and published reports say Oscar Winner Halle Berry is having marital problems with husband number three, Actor Oliver Martinez. The two married last July and had a son in October. Friends say Martinez wants Halle to be more of a traditional wife. He doesn’t like how she is mothering their child because she is too busy losing weight and working on her new TV series. Berry's new drama, Exant, premieres July 9th on CBS. Fellow Oscar Winner Steven Spielberg is producing Exant. Berry seems to run out of luck when it comes to her relationships. She has been spotted not wearing her wedding ring on the set. She plays an astronaut on the show. Maybe that's why she doesn't wear the ring. Will their marriage survive, or as The Intruders sang, three strikes you're out?!

NBC debuted an exciting new show last week called Crisis, which airs Sunday nights at 10pm. This drama is action packed and very suspenseful. I am hooked on this show! Crisis stars The show stars Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), Michael Beach (Third Watch, The Game), Rachael Taylor (Charlie's Angels) and Lance Gross (House Of Payne). Not only does Lance look good, but he plays a great hero.

Actress Meagan Good, is returning to NBC in the new TV series Babylon Fields with S. Epatha Merkerson (Law & Order) this fall.

Actress/Singer Jennifer Hudson has cut ties with Weight Watchers. The Oscar winner lost 80 pounds on a very successful campaign. She was their spokesperson for the past few years. It appears their parting was painful because they decided to do more weight loss campaigns with Pop Star Jessica Simpson.

The life story of Darlene Love is coming to the cable station. Love is the famed background singer and actress who got her due later in life. Love's book, My Name Is Love, details her life as a background singer for the stars including Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Aretha Franklin and others. She was tied contractually to Music Legend Phil Spector, which delayed her career for many years. Love ventured into acting becoming famous for her role Danny Glover's wife in the Lethal Weapon movies. The book also discuses her love affair with Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers. Love's story is also chronicled in the Academy Award winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, which is out on DVD. The Darlene Love movie will air on OWN later this year.

Congrats to Actor Idris Elba! He and longtime girlfriend, Naiyana Garth, are the proud parents of a baby boy. They named him Winston after his father. Also congrats to Singer Eric Benet! The singer/songwriter and his wife, Manuela, are expecting their second child.

Comedian Chris Rock is headed back to the big screen in the film Finally Famous. Gabrielle Union and Rosario Dawson will be his co-stars in the “dramedy.”

Boris Kodjoe has joined the cast of the CBS show Unforgettable. Kodjoe debuts this fall, and he will play a secret service agent.

The late Rocker Jimi Hendrix is being honored with a new postage stamp along with “The Genius” Ray Charles and Country Legend Johnny Cash. Andre 3000 of Outkast is playing Hendrix in the big screen movie All Is By My Side.

Kindred the Family Soul is returning this summer with a new CD entitled A Couple Of Friends.
Actor Isaiah Washington is returning to Grey's Anatomy. Seven years ago, Washington was fired from the popular ABC drama because of homophobic remarks that he made on the set that got out publicly. Washington's return coincides with the departure of Sandra Oh, who is leaving the show at the end of this season. Dr. Preston Burke (Washington) will help his former love interest Dr. Christina Yang (Oh) wrap her storyline on Grey's.

The new season of Dancing With The Stars kicked off with a poor performance by Billy Dee Williams. At the age of 77, the routines seemed to much for the Mahogany actor, and I don't think being on the show does anything for his legendary reputation. On the other hand, Reality Star NeNe Leakes did surprisingly well, and she looked very good with her dance routine.
Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice returns this summer to NBC. The lineup, if rumors are true, is exciting. I hear Oscar-winning Actress/Comedienne Mo'Nique is going to be on the show along with Singer K Michelle, Real Housewives Of Atlanta Star Kenya Moore, Rapper/Actor Ludacris, Actress Lindsey Lohan, Actor Ving Rhames and Comedian George Lopez.

The list of actors joining the FOX show Empire continues to grow. The Lee Daniels produced hip hop drama stars Terrence Howard as a hip hop mogul and Taraji P. Henson as his ex-wife. Malik Yoba (New York Undercover) Macy Gray and Oscar Nominee Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) have been added to the cast. Empire is slated to debut this fall on FOX.
