1st Stab at Spoken Word..

The man attends Cross Word Christian Church in Moreno Valley and he invited me to join him at the church for spoken word, poetry night. I believe they do this every Friday. One of his good friends is in charge of it. For my first time, it was pretty cool, met some of his friends at church and some other closer friends.

There was a segment that was introduced to the audience that would give people the opportunity to participate in the whole evening. What they did was read out 3 words. The 2 out of the 3 were: hands and house. For the life of me I cannot remember what the 3rd was.
Anyhow, what you would have to do is, use one, two or all 3 of the words in a piece that came straight off the dome.

So....Im sitting and listening to all the beginners, intermediate and advanced sistas and brothas that got up there and did there thing. They received love. I in no way shape, form, or fashion was an expert at this. But for whatever reason I had a wild hair and said, what the hell, why not! So the facilitators passed out 3x5 index cards, and whatever you could fit on that card, do it! No profanity, sexual implications or nada...so I said, I can do this!

Because it was my first time meeting some of Mr. P's friends and all up in his church, the pressure was on
So this is what I came up with:

Different sizes
Different colors
smooth,
rough,
ashy or moisturized.
Loving my baby girls hands
and missing the touch of my grandmothers hands.
She had the softest pair of hands where I always felt safe & sound.
Even though you are gone Nana
rest assured...
Because even though I no longer physically have your hands,
I HAVE HIS!
HIS hands keep ME protected!
In HIS hands, I feel safe and secure!
MY GOD places his hands on me when I think they are not....
HE'S GOT MY BACK!
My God's hands...
he holds me
in the light
and in the dark...
Continue to hold me Lord,
in your hands.

Boom! The crowd loved me....
**Thanks babe for having faith in me..you ARE my biggest cheerleader! MUAH!
