Whats the 4-1-1!? - Week of 7/16/12

Its been awhile...here's your good dose of scoop! Read up!

Prophetess Juanita Bynum is now acknowledging publicly that before she was an abused wife, she was abusing herself. Bynum says she's done it all: from drugs, to being with men, and to being with women. She says she made these choices due to her lack of wisdom. The prophetess says purpose and destiny allowed her to get away from destruction, including letting go of her husband Pastor Thomas Weeks. Weeks and Bynum had a violent confrontation in an Atlanta parking lot that became known to the public and left Bynum battered.

The war against the Michael Jackson estate continues. Janet, Rebbie, Tito, Randy and Jermaine feel their mother is being ripped off. They want Administrators John McClain and John Braca to resign. The Jacksons now say the will is a fraud and are accusing McClain and Braca of being the perpetrators. Here's the problem, McClain and Braca are doing an excellent job of running the estate. They're practically wiped out the debt Michael Jackson died owing. The Jackson siblings know the estate will soon be in the black with profit, and now they want to take over. Bad idea because if they had it in the first place, there wouldn't be any money left.

In more King Of Pop news, the estate is gearing up for the 25th anniversary release of 1987 album BAD. The re-release is coming out in September and will feature new music. The package will include never before seen concert footage. The King Of Pop died in 2009. Also, get ready for a new documentary about Michael Jackson by Director Spike Lee. The documentary will feature never before seen footage from the King Of Pop.

Newlywed and Eagles Quarterback Michael Vick has launched a sports clothing line. The line, called V7, will be sold at Modell's. Proceeds will benefit The Boys & Girls Club of Philadelphia. The 2012 NFL season kicks off September 5th. Vick's new book, Finally Free, is coming out on September 4th. In the book, he details the dog fighting scandal and his time in prison.

The American Idol shakeup I talked about last week laid some big bombshells. Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez are out. Will J-Lo and Steve be replaced by The Queen Of Soul? Tyler and Lopez separately announced they're leaving Idol, but there are whispers that they beat producers to the punch. Sources say Lopez wanted a hefty raise to return, and Steven Tyler didn't live up to expectations. Idol ratings took a hit and producers had no intention of relinquishing their title as the top singing reality show. Remember I said there are just too many singing reality shows. That's what's hurting, and now there's talk Randy Jackson could go next. Meanwhile, Aretha Franklin has stated she would make an excellent judge for the show. Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb talked about it on the fourth hour of The Today Show. Kathie Lee thought not enough of the young Idol audience would know Aretha. The Queen Of Soul promptly checked Kathie Lee sending out a statement that her fans range from eight to eighty. Franklin also said she wished Kathie Lee would have done her homework. Kathie Lee later apologized but stood by her point that young audiences don't know enough about legendary performers. At this point, other names being bandied about include Mariah Carey, Adam Lambert and Charlie Sheen even called Ryan Seacreast and threw his name into consideration. All this publicity won't hurt American Idol. They'll be back next spring, and it will be interesting to see who's on board.

Oprah Winfrey has stepped in to save her dad's barbershop, but his soon to be ex-wife is not happy. Barbara Winfrey says Oprah has come between her and her husband, Oprah's dad Vernon Winfrey. Vernon has owned his barbershop for fifty years, but Oprah brought it to save it from being sold in foreclosure. This was around the time Vernon dumped his wife. Barbara Winfrey feels Oprah is a bad influence on Vernon. Vernon has recently accused Barbara of cheating on him.

On another Oprah note, Alicia Keys will be honoring The Mighty O at the Keep A Child Alive charity event, which is happening in November. The charity helps to support children affected by HIV and AIDS in Africa. Past honorees include Bono and President Bill Clinton.

Mary J. Blige ditched The E! show Opening Act for a role as a mentor on The Voice. Both shows are owned by NBC. For this show, Mary will be apart of Judge Adam Levine's team and mentor his competing singer. The third season of The Voice premieres Monday, September 10th on NBC. In more Mary news, she's also coming out with a fashion collection which will have boots, accessories and jeans. Plus, Blige is also scheduled to be one of the stars of the TV movie Parallel Lives. She will play Betty Shabazz, the widow of Malcolm X. The movie is about the lives of Coretta Scott King and Shabazz. Filming starts in September. Finally, Blige will be on The Liberation Tour with D’Angelo and Melanie Fiona. They'll be in Philly Friday, August 24th at the Mann Center For The Performing Arts, 52nd and Parkside Avenue.

Alpha Lorenzo Walker and his girlfriend Tamara Diaz are charged with trying to extort Stevie Wonder. Walker is Wonder's cousin, and police say he tried to blackmail the singer by releasing a film detailing how badly Wonder allegedly treats his family. Authorities also say the pair threatened to expose an alleged incestuous relationship. A judge deemed there was enough evidence to charge Walker and Diaz, who allegedly received a $10,000 down payment against their $500,000 demand. Wonder denied all of his cousin's allegations to police.

Actor Michael Clarke Duncan is doing better after suffering a heart attack last week. The 54-year old actor, best known for the movies The Green Mile, Planet Of The Apes and The Scorpion King, was saved by his girlfriend, Reality Star Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth. Omarosa, 38, is best known as America's favorite villainess from Donald Trump's reality show The Apprentice. According to Omarosa, she found her fiance just in time and was able to revive Duncan. Duncan's condition is listed as improving.

Basketball Great Magic Johnson is on the cover of the latest edition of Jet magazine. He is talking about his new TV network Aspire. It's aimed at the 30 and older audience. Aspire was the first channel scheduled as part of an agreement Comcast has with the FCC to launch 10 new independently owned cable channels. Besides classic TV shows from the 60's and 70's from Diahann Carroll, Bill Cosby and Flip Wilson, Aspire will also feature documentaries, films, gospel and music programming. This new cable network along with his acquiring of the rights to the Soul Train brand are just two of the many business ventures Johnson is engaged in along with celebrating twenty years of survival and awareness since the AIDS virus, HIV, forced him to retire from basketball.

WDAS Morning Man Steve Harvey is on the cover of Ebony. It's the black wealth issue. Nia Long and her sons, Kez, eight months and ten-year old Massai, are on the cover of the latest issue of Essence magazine. In more Steve Harvey news, he is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame next year. His new talk show debuts September 4th. His latest movie, Think Like A Man, comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray August 28th.

Oscar Winner Halle Berry is out of the hospital after falling on her head on the set of her latest movie. Sources say the beauty may have suffered a concussion because after she fell on her head she started throwing up. Last fall, Berry broke her foot on the set of a movie. Is Halle's bad luck with relationships spreading to her movie sets? The studios will have a hard time getting films made for Halle if these accidents keep happening. She's since been released and is recuperating from what doctors called a minor head injury.

Tameka Foster will not give up on her son Kyle Glover. Amidst talk that she should let her son go and the insurance company might not want to continue to help any further, Foster will not pull the plug. She's been thanking everyone for their prayers and asked for more. Sources say Tameka's and Kyle's father's insurance are covering the medical bills and will continue to do so. 11 year-old Kyle was involved in a tragic accident that left him brain dead. Kyle and a young female friend were hanging out swimming in an inner tube when a jet ski came out of nowhere and hit them. Kyle was left brain dead since the
accident. Meanwhile, published reports say Tameka's ex-husband Usher has moved to settle what was once a nasty custody battle between the two for their youngest sons. In light of his stepson's tragic
accident, Usher has been by Tameka's side and has reportedly moved for a custody settlement that favors more of Tameka's wishes.

Pioneering Rapper Ms. Melodie has died. She was a founding member of Boogie Down Productions and was married to fellow Rapper KRS-One. They divorced twenty years ago. In the 80's, she was part of the group of rappers on Self Destruction and earlier with her own single, Hype According To Ms. Melodie. Melodie, born Ramona Parker, leaves behind two children.

Tony Cornelius has started a suicide awareness network in honor of his dad, Soul Train Founder Don Cornelius, via The Don Cornelius Foundation. Tony and the foundation are spearheading efforts to be supportive of the survivors of people who have committed suicide. Don Cornelius took his life in February at the age of 75.

Natalie Cole's mother and Nat “King” Cole's widow, Maria, passed away last week at the age of 89. She was battling cancer.

Cedric The Entertainer is promoting his new TV Land sitcom The Soul Man, I love this show which airs at 10pm on Wednesday nights. The show also stars Niecy Nash. The ratings for Soul Man have been incredible, but Direct TV and Viacom's feud may be a problem for it. Viacom owns the TV Land network, as well as MTV and BET. Viacom's networks have been dropped from Direct TV because the two sides can't agree on fees. Both sides have taken to the air in an effort to win the public's trust. Let's hope a deal can be struck soon so we can get our favorite shows back.

For Better Or Worse is returning to the lineup of TBS. Anthony Anderson and Cosby Show Alum Tempest Bledsoe have joined the cast of the NBC fall show Guys With Kids. Talk Show Host/Comedian Jimmy Fallon is producing the show.

Reality Star NeNe Leakes continues to have problems with her oldest son Bryson. Bryson is in trouble with the law again. Most recently, he was caught stealing razors from Walmart. He was arrested twice earlier this year for gun and drug offenses. Is he trying to get attention from his mom? Leakes has a new NBC show, The New Normal, debuting this fall, and she is continuing on the Real Housewives Of
Atlanta. I hear she and Kandi Burruss do a lot fighting in season five, which debuts later this year. Last week was another rough one for Leakes. Reports say she accidentally hit a producer in the face
during a fight scene. Bravo has a clause forbidding injuring staff. Nene is getting a million dollars for this season of Housewives. Violating that clause could not only mess up her mainstream plans, but that million dollar contract as well.
